BOOKS

ZERO WASTE HOME -     BEA JOHNSON

This is one of all time favourite go to books. Not too preachy, but inspiring enough to help me make small but steady changes in how much waste we generate as a family and the steps I can take to refuse, reduce and recycle it.

HOW BAD ARE BANANAS - MIKE BERNERS -LEE

An excellent read if you want to know the true carbon cost of everyday items your consume. Extremely informative and eye-opening, this book has helped me tremendously in shopping more responsibly.

THE LIFE CHANGING MAGIC OF TIDYING UP - MARIE KONDO

Although strictly not a book focused on sustainability, this book initiated me to the minimalistic lifestyle It has helped me so much in living without clutter and stress and I highly recommend picking up a copy if you want to live more but with less stuff.

DOCUMENTARIES

CLIMATE CHANGE - THE FACTS

In this highly acclaimed and widely popular documentary, Sir David Attenborough explains how human-centered activities are the leading causes of climate change and are threatening the lives of species and their habitat across the globe.

If you read or watch anything this year, let it be Sir David telling you that there is still hope and we can all do our part in protecting our planet Earth.

COWSPIRACY - THE SUSTAINABILITY SECRET

It's true, you will never think of that hamburger in the same way. With the right balance of research, scientific insights and emotional appeal, this documentary will leave you convinced of the impact the meat and dairy industry has on our natural resources.

Every journey starts somewhere, for millions of people on plant-based diets, it started with watching films like these.

MINIMALISM: A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE IMPORTANT THINGS

Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things takes a multi-perspective look at Minimalism and how attractive the movement has become to millions of people, who are striving for meaning by living more with less stuff but more experiences.

OTHER RESOURCES

MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES (MOOCs)

There are a number of platforms now through which you can access free online courses from the world's top universities. You can learn at your own pace or choose to follow a schedule and earn a certificate. Topics cover introductory courses on sustainable development to intermediate and advance levels on sustainable energy, food, technology and climate change. Some of the most popular MOOCs are offered by Edx, Coursera and Future Learn.

PODCASTS ON SUSTAINABILITY

Listening to podcasts (and audio books) have been a great way for me to learn more about people from all over the world working to protect their people, land and livelihoods. You also get to hear firsthand from experts on the most critical issues facing us and how we as a society can address them. Spotify and Castbox have their own playlist on sustainability which are a good place to start.

ONLINE PUBLICATIONS

There are countless blogs, online magazines and websites dedicated to sustainability. Subscribing to these publications is a good idea if you like to receive the latest updates in your inbox. You can also use the settings in your Google Chrome App to receive news related to your areas of interest. Happy Reading!

My current favourite is the TreeHugger as it covers everthing from lifestyle to business to technology and science.
